DrBicuspid (6/29, Anderson) reported that a study published in the Journal of the Sciences and Specialties of the Head and Neck found women with less-healthy diets may have an increased risk of oral cavity cancer (OCC), even without tobacco or alcohol use. The research, led by Dr. Brittany Barber from the University of Washington, analyzed data from nearly 211,000 participants over 30 years. Women with low adherence to a prudent diet had nearly three times the OCC risk compared to those with high adherence. No similar association was found in men, highlighting the need for further studies to explore diet’s role in OCC among women.
