DrBicuspid (9/9) reported that a clinical trial published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery found that listening to music during wisdom tooth surgery reduces anxiety effectively, offering a nonpharmacologic alternative to medication like diazepam. The study, involving 30 patients at an Iranian dental school, showed lower anxiety scores for music listeners (33.6) compared to diazepam users (37.4). While diazepam reduced heart rate and blood pressure more significantly, music provides an accessible anxiety management option. The research, led by Dr. Behnoosh Hormozi from the University of Connecticut, highlights music’s potential in perioperative anxiety management.
